This study aims to understand the management of nonprofit organizations by identifying the determinants of your performance. The study is guided in a literature review on the third sector, particularly on their management practices, performance management and Balanced Scorecard (BSC). In this sense, it's about a theme few discussed, performance management in nonprofit organizations, and allows for reflection on the management practices adopted by them, in the face of an industry marked by diversity and difficulties of delimitation. To achieve the proposed objective, the method used was a case study conducted through 13 interviews, 32 questionnaires and participant observation in Associação de Desenvolvimento Sustentável e Solidário da Região Sisaleira - APAEB, producer association that was chosen because your size and relevance to the development of this study. The results indicate the need for development of management technologies that take into appreciation the specificities of these organizations, in view of the difficulty of adapting technologies from the private sector, since they favor a process of gentrification in management, in which few members takes part of its management process.
