Resumo: Leadership and motivation at work are issues that intertwine and become essential for influencing people to reach specific goals and objectives within organizations in order to achieve greater productivity and competitiveness. For some employees, a good salary is not enough to motivate them and meet their expectations, but a series of actions for the recovery of the human being and their self-fulfillment in the workplace. Leadership intertwines with motivation as it involves the achievement of goals with and through people. In view of this, this paper presents the following problem: what is the leadership style by contemporary manager and the relationship between the leadership and motivation of the subordinate? and aims to show the context that structure the relationship between leadership and motivation at work. This is a study with qualitative and quantitative, exploratory and transversal approach, whose universe of research are pharmaceutical representatives and district managers of pharmaceutical representatives teams, allocated in marketing and sales of the pharmaceutical industry which carries on business in Brazil. Justified for bringing the differential to search an important segment in the Brazilian economy and large investments in leadership and motivation politics. The main results of this study describe a situational leadership style and the relationship between behavior and attitudes of leadership and motivation of subordinates. But it seems some vested control methods aimed at driving the behavior of subordinates in search of higher productivity bring negative impact this motivational process.
