Resumo: | Sepsis is a potentially fatal organ dysfunction responsible for the high mortality rate in intensive care units (ICU) and worsening of survivors' quality of life. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of life after discharge from sepsis survivors undergoing an early ICU mobilization protocol. Clinical study, which evaluated 10 patients allocated by lot: 5 in the intervention group (GI) who participated in the early mobilization protocol, who underwent electrostimulation, cycle ergometer and kinesiotherapy for seven days; 5 in the control group (CG) who received conventional physical therapy. After hospital discharge, the subjects answered the SF36 quality of life questionnaire in the first, third and sixth months. Significant worsening of quality of life was found in the first month, especially in the “functional capacity” and “physical aspects” domains; GI showed gradual improvement over the months, with similar values to before hospitalization; The CG, however, showed less evolution and worse quality of life in some domains. Although patients who received early mobilization were more severe at ICU admission, the length of stay was shorter. It is possible to conclude that the repercussions of sepsis affect the quality of life of patients after discharge and that early mobilization was effective to improve quality of life; Intervention protocols and follow-up of these patients after discharge are of great relevance in the treatment of the disease. |
