The purpose of this research constitutes in the understanding of the urban reconfiguration and refunctioning of the city of Araguari, by analyzing its role in the region of Triângulo Mineiro (MG). The methodological procedures that enabled achieving the aim were the reading of several bibliographies that approached the subject; information sought in historical articles of local newspapers; data survey in public and private institutions, besides the realization of interviews with local residents. The study is organized in three chapters, whereas the first is an analysis about the new spatialities brought by the arrival of the railway in Araguari, the city´s role in the regional context when it was a railroad junction. In the second there is a discussion about the spatialities engendered in the urban area of Araguari by the insertion of the agricultural capital in the municipality. Lastly, the third chapter analyzes the regional role of the city from the analysis of health and transportation demands and the questioning about Araguari as a proper medium city, with all the attributes and functions that enable to classify the urban centers as such. The research allowed to conclude that, despite the urban restructuring and refunctioning process, decurrent of the territorial labor hierarchy, the city still manages to carry out a core role concerning the offer of health and educational services, performing in the region, a complementary function with the neighbor municipality, which is, Uberlândia.
