Resumo: The present thesis analyzes the working conditions of the basic education teacher in municipal public schools in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, from the 1990s. The main objective of this study is to analyze these conditions and to identify factors related to work precariousness, such as the intensification process and illness through stress. The research is qualitative and descriptive, in which data are collected through a questionnaire and provide the analysis of working conditions. The main elements of daily school life that develop internal and external conflicts regarding the structural organization, the nuances of teaching work and labor relationship, which can provide high levels of tension, are verified. Thus, the teacher works dissatisfied, in a state of insecurity and with difficulties in the professional practice, which leads to frustrations, emotional and physical problems that affect autonomy and subjectivity, in addition to professional apathy. Through the analysis, it was possible to identify and study the work difficulties of the teacher from municipal public educational institutions. This context involves complexities and obstacles, which require improvements in the structural and organizational process, in the conditions of teaching work and in the role of the State and all those subjects involved. Therefore, the valorization of education professionals can happen daily in public educational institutions, demonstrating the importance of this professional in the social sphere.
