Resumo: In this paper, the reader is invited to explore the ways that lead to some elaborations related to the helplessness in the psychoanalytic theory, specifically in Freud, from the constitution of ego and the clinic experience of some parents. Helplessness in Freud is considered as inherent condition in the human being. It manifests in the fragility of the baby before the incapacity of surviving by its own means, in the anxiety before the separation of the love object, in the fear of live´s end, in the fragility of the body, in the ilusion of protection in civilization. What is being shown in this paper is how the psychic experience emerges in the psychoanalytic clinic or, in which sense, the helplessness of the parents is revived in the children leaving these parents distant from their peculiarity; and how the helplessness has become present in the way of live of contemporary man. With the five cases presented, helplessness is shown as a paradoxal condition, in other words, the ego being marked by the carer which leads to helplessness in the condition that imprisons and in the condition that sets free, indicating the way of desire. Therefore, the capacity of human being to rise before his fragility is present in his origins; it´s life fighting against and with death.
