This Manoel de Barros poetry reading aims to consider the different ways that memory is manifested and becomes poetic images, taking as a main corpus to study the book Poemas rupestres. This work focus on three aspects: first of all, it attempts to understand the role of personal memory in its relationship with reminiscences of childhood and the elements of nature; secondly, it discusses the memory manifestation revealed by the reference to a cultural heritage and therefore collective. In this feature, this work searches the quotational characteristic from Barros poetry that becomes into a space of intersectional texts and images of other authors and artists, especially of the modern ones. This reflection is mainly based on the concept of intertextuality created by Julia Kristeva. The third aspect is related to the implicit memory in the occurrence of numerous self-citations linking the poems to each other, where each poetic text is seen under the shadow of another.
