Resumo: | This Master's dissertation is based on the need to deepen studies on Heritage Education in Basic Education. We will work with the Municipality of Esmeraldas, having as its first denomination Vila de Santa Quitéria, built in the first decades of the 18th century, on the routes that linked the gold-bearing region, based on the Catholic belief to the Portuguese Saint Quitéria, founded on the sesmarias system, to meet the shortage of food supply in Minas Gerais. The region has a relevant contribution to the culture and historical heritage of the State of Minas Gerais and its rich heritage is little explored. We will analyze in this work part of the historical heritage of Santa Quitéria, current Esmeraldas, from Praça da Matriz de Santa Quitéria, today Praça Getúlio Vargas. We will highlight the legacy of the first settlers and the population's relationship with the heritage and their occupation of the public square in some historical contexts. As a product of the research, we developed a site containing photographs, maps and narratives about the Historic Center, in which we highlight the formation of Vila de Santa Quitéria from the square, as well as the legacy of the first settlers, in addition to what remains of the heritage material and the population's relationship with this public space. |
