The systematic treatment of specimens of the family Melastomataceae in the Serra do Ouro Branco, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, was carried out based on exsiccates deposited in Brazilian herbaria. The samples were collected in the phytophysiognomies that compose the Serra, where the rupestrian fields stand out. In the Serra do Ouro Branco the family Melastomataceae is represented by 64 species distributed in 17 genera. The most representative are Microlicia D. Don (12 spp.), Leandra Raddi and Miconia Ruiz & Pav. (11 spp. each), followed by Pleroma D. Don (5 spp.), Tibouchina Aubl. and Trembleya DC. (4 spp. each), Cambessedesia DC. (3 spp.), Comolia DC., Lavoisiera DC., Ossaea DC. and Rhynchanthera DC. (2 spp. each). Chaetostoma DC., Chaetogastra DC., Fritzschia Cham., Marcetia DC., Pterolepsis (DC.) Miq. and Siphanthera Pohl. ex DC. have only one species each. In addition to the morphological descriptions, here we present diagnostic comments, identification key for the species and flowering and fruiting data.
