Resumo: This research started from a problem that took shape from the pandemic caused by the proliferation of COVID-19. By observing the increase in statistical data in information conveyed on social media, the study sought to understand how pedagogical proposals, developed through data conveyed on social media, could help in the development of critical statistical literacy. For this investigation, two pedagogical proposals were developed: (i) the number of deaths in Brazil during the years 2019 and 2020; and (ii) the violence against women. The study was based on a methodological perspective of participant observation. It was conducted with twelve third-year high school students from a public educational institution in the city of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo. Four meetings were held. Data were collected through video recording, the teacher-researchers logbook, and the records prepared by the students at the end of each proposal. The data analysis indicates that work from the theoretical perspective of critical statistical literacy can help to develop the criticality about issues that permeate students' daily lives and to build their perceptions about the responsibility of acting in society. The research concluded that the perspective of critical statistical literacy presents contributions to the teaching of statistics in educational environments. By studying the students' responses during the execution of the pedagogical proposals and the reflections that they raised, a digital e-book titled Investigates was created, an educational product of this research, directed to educators, researchers, and readers interested in this topic. The intention was to present the perspective of critical statistical literacy theory and the possible ways of approaching it in the classroom.
