Resumo: | This work is inserted in the theme of urban mobility, in the relationship between street design and pedestrian road safety. Even today, the predominance of urban design aimed at motor vehicle traffic is clear, marked by the execution of wide streets unrelated to the human scale, by the lack of adequate space for other modes of transportation, by monofunctional neighborhoods and by the sprawl of the city. The research aimed to verify which elements of the street design offer greater safety for pedestrians when crossing non-signposted intersections. Theoretical research was carried out for the concept of safe street design, addressing points in the design of safe cities that contribute to safety in displacements, on road safety addressing concepts of zero vision and safe systems, traffic conflicts and finalizing the theoretical research on the elements of the street. The second part of the research was to carry out a case study of eight intersections not signalized by road hierarchy, defined in the municipal legislation of the city of Uberlândia, recording the pedestrian priority when crossing the street and traffic conflicts, using the Swedish technique. The result verified in the case study was that the roundabout and the elevated crossing are the elements of the street design that offered greater safety for pedestrians. It is necessary to review the street performance indicators for indicators of quality of public space, safety, serving different functions and thus proposing a new design for the streets. |
