Resumo: | Freight transport of either raw material necessary for the production process or finished products, along the logistics chain until it reaches the final consumer, presents itself as crucial to the development of all economic and social activities necessary for life within society. Considering the urban context, its importance is even greater due to the growth of the population living in the cities, the increase of consumption in different social classes and also the changes in consumer behavior (especially the growth of electronic business - ecommerce) and lastly, the companies investing in business processes with focus of improving logistics efficiency. However, despite its importance for the activity of freight transportation in urban areas, it contributes to the emergence and / or intensification of various problems experienced mainly in areas with concentrations of commercial activities and services, such as traffic jams, increasing levels of atmospheric emissions, traffic accidents, noise pollution, among others. In this context, the emergence of new concepts that go beyond the limited evaluations (adjustments in infrastructure and process evelopment of various interventions. Such interventions target the improvement on operations of urban transport loads considering the various factors related to it, with emphasis on the improvement of urban mobility and quality of life. The purpose of this work is understanding in a geographical perspective, the issues related to cargo urban transportation, with emphasis on identifying alternatives currently used in several countries in order to reduce the negative external factors as a result of this activity. Envisioning the development of the foregoing discussion, the end of this thesis, a case study of an area of intense commercial activity of the hyper (Central Zone 1) in Uberlândia / MG. In terms of achieving the goals presented in the methodology used, which consisted completion of field work in cities with significant experience in actions for urban logistics) and in the case study of the mentioned area (in which research was considered volumetric classification of vehicles for urban freight transport, research on the profile of the deliveries in the area of study and research on the characteristics of the operations of receiving deliveries of commercial establishments in the area) became satisfactory. As a result, proposals for strategic and tactical level to improve the performance of activities of urban transport, and cargo loading/ unloading operations in the area of study. |
