Resumo: In this work three different commonly used quick-change tooling systems - STR (KM, CAPTO and VTS) are compared. Boring tests were carried out in a CNC machine center with interpolation of the path. Cutting speed, feed rate, and the initial diameter of the hole were varied. Dry cut and application of a cutting fluid were also tested. Machining force components were controlled by a Kistler piezoelectric dynamometer. Together with the power consumption and vibration contrais the signals were recorded in real time and simultaneously with the aid of a data acquisition board. The hole obtained were posterior taken to a adequate equipment in order to determine their roundness and cylindricity as well as their surface roughness. With the results it was possible to compare the performance of the three STR tested. The roundness and cylindricity errs were relatively high for all cutting conditions and STR tested and but it was not possible to determine a clear advantage of a system. The surface roughness was clearly deteriorated when the feed rate was increased. The performance of the quick-change tooling systems was varied for each situation, alternating the classification among them according to the parameter and to the cutting condition considered. At the end it was possible to build a map of behavior of the three STR for the cutting conditions tested. This allowed a classification of them at each individual cutting condition. Identification of an outperforming system, however, was not observed.
