Resumo: INTRODUCTION: The transvestite, who is one of the most stigmatized figures in the LGBT community, finds herself without escape from her work as a sex worker, as they are sexually transient beings, and prostitution seems to be a quick and easy way for them. acquisition of resources for survival. The sex worker requires health care, as this work activity is considered informal and unhealthy, carrying with it several vulnerabilities. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate behavioral and sociodemographic indicators of transvestite sex workers, as well as to review concepts on sexuality, gender, behavior and to point out public policies aimed at the LGBT population. METHODOLOGY: The population was 46 transvestite sex workers from the city of Uberlândia-MG. The research has a descriptive and quantitative character. For the dissertation defense, 3 accepted articles were used, which are clippings of the final dissertation. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS: We can see from this research that in general the health and awareness needs of this population become alarming and that we should educate health professionals, educators, and all who should be people who guarantee the rights of this population. The various social and cultural differences that are pervaded in this population, which are, for the most part, obliged to make the sex market their working environment, were evaluated in several variables. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: We know that the number of public policies and publications in favor of these populations that are unlinked to the AIDS epidemic is almost nonexistent, and yet they are of paramount importance to reduce stigmatization and stereotyping propagated for decades to this population.
