Resumo: Introduction: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a subject that has been attracting increasing interest in recent years, due to the importance of the factors involved in the context of work and health, as well as its relation with the quality of care provided. Proposal: To evaluate the health-related quality of life of nursing professionals and the influence of job satisfaction upon this construct. Methods: 50 nurses and 57 nursing assistants answered to the life quality (SF-36) and job satisfaction (S20/23) measurement instruments and had their sociodemographic data collected. The means of the questionnaires scores were compared between themselves and the categories. SF-36 scores were correlated to the S20/23 scores and to the sociodemographic variables. The statistically significant correlations (p < 0.05) were evaluated in a stepwise multiple regression model. Results: We detected lower means for the nursing technicians group at all measurement instruments and for nurses at SF-36. Conclusions: Nurses and nursing technicians presented a decrease in life quality scores for the vitality, pain and general health state domains of the questionnaires, and for their mental and physical components. Male nursing technicians presented a decrease in job satisfaction.
