Resumo: The National Policy for Comprehensive Health Care for the LGBT Population has not yet achieved the desired results. Among its challenges is the training of human resources in health aligned with the Policy's proposals. Therefore, it is important to analyze the training of health professionals to care for this population. Considering the importance of nursing professionals in the logic of health care and attention, the objective of this study was to understand the perspective of nursing students on training for issues of sexual and gender diversity. The methodology used was qualitative, with data collection being carried out through focus groups with 32 students from a public university in Minas Gerais, and data analysis was performed through thematic analysis. The analysis pointed to the lack of teaching on the topic of sexual and gender diversity, the lack of preparation in caring for the LGBTQIA+ population, the student's responsibility in learning about the specific health policy, and the university's insufficient action in combating prejudice/discrimination.
