Resumo: | Through classroom practice, we have observed a lack in the development of activities for systematic lexicon instruction in addition to low use of mobile phones in class. Given this, this study aimed to use mobile phones as a technological resource and pedagogical tool in Portuguese language lessons to meet these needs through the exploration of idioms, focusing on lexical expansion and, hence, on improving students’ reading, writing and interpreting texts, and oral skills. We have also observed that idioms are not much explored in Portuguese language classes. On account of that, we studied idioms using mobile phones. The study theoretical background was based on Almeida (2003), Barbosa (1990, 1999, 2000, 2001), Bezerra (1998), Biderman (1998), among others. The activities developed in the classroom made up the corpus of the work. We assumed that mobile phone use in Portuguese language lessons is a critical pedagogical tool for teaching and learning. Through semantic-lexical studies, from a diachronic perspective, we developed an intervention proposal, later applied to a class with thirty-three participants from the ninth grade of a public school in a state school of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Along this intervention, students carried out readings of various textual genres, looked up idioms, created drawings, GIFs animations and a BLOG, which resulted in contact with new words and expressions, and thus expanded their lexical knowledge, as well as their understanding that language is socially constructed, since they sought the origin of idioms and could identify their social construction. As a result, we developed GIFs and a BLOG using mobile phones to disseminate and share both the activities developed during the study and also its findings among students and teachers. |
