Resumo: This study aims to present a methodological proposal for the use of popular and peripheral songs from the 1990s to study the impacts of neoliberal policies on the daily life and social life of young people from the peripheries of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in History classes. In this sense, this project dialogues with the conception of the use of historical sources in the teaching of History, for the improvement of competences related to the functioning of the historical conscience. It is also the objective of our methodology to encourage the stimulation of historical learning through the production of narratives that are based on reading and listening to the musical document and other sources, such as newspapers and academic texts. Therefore, we carried out a brief bibliographic survey of theoretical and methodological discussions that address the use of musical language as a source for the production of historical knowledge in the academic and school context. In this itinerary, we highlight the procedures developed by the historian during the investigation and elaboration of the historical conscience based on the song document.
