This dissertation reflects on the theater performed in the 1980s in the city of Uberaba - MG during the Redemocratization period in Brazil. Through archives of newspapers of the time and testimonials of artists and cultural agents of the city I try to map this theatrical history and its actors. Even with all the omens of Uberaba society saying that “Uberaba had no more theater”, that “the theater had died in the 1970s”, this research goes against these omens and broke in its lines the significant memory of the theatrical acts of 1980. The research is an invitation to think about the importance of amateur theater as a formative element of artists in cities in the interior of Brazil, Minas Gerais, from Uberaba.
