Resumo: With the accelerated urbanization, the fast growth of the Brazilian cities and the increase of the construction activities, the poduction of Construction and Demolition Wastes - RCD reached alarming amounts. This work is a case research, which made the diagnosis of the situation of unregulated dumping of RCD in the outlying neighborhood in Uberlândia, and it offers, at the end, suggestions of actions which subsidize the implement of a plan for sustainable management of those wastes. The bibliographical research provided the theoretical support for the studied theme. The field data collection included the application of questionnaires, informal interviews, local visits, intensive direct observation and systematic photographic registration. The obtained data was compiled in images, maps, tables, graphics, among others, that were discussed and analyzed later. The study was made based on two outlying neighborhoods of Uberlândia - Guarani and Tocantins where took place the mapping of the clandestine dumping areas and the investigation of the possible causes of the existence of those areas. To evaluate the recycling potential of the RCD and the environmental impacts caused on the studied places, it was estimated the residue volume, and made the qualification of RCD in one of the dumping areas mapped. It was verified the invasion of public and private areas for deposition, as well as, the attraction that this activity carries on other kinds of residues. The physical characterization showed a great recyclable portion of the RCD which, however, is polluted by other wastes. At the end, it was considered the costs of the corrective actions of the municipal administration to clean those areas. The study presents data of the researched reality, allowing the projection for neighborhoods of similar characteristics, and it consists in an important subsidy for the administration of Uberlândia, in the search of solutions for the irregular dumping question, with benefits for the environment and society.
