Resumo: This work examined the requirements for the implementation of the institutional purchase of processed foods, produced by family farming, for school lunches, with resources from the National School Food Program (PNAE), in the body of a Federal Education Institution (IFE), following the dictates of Law 11,947, of June 16, 2009. It is a qualitative research, based on bibliographic and documentary research on institutional information and pertinent legislation, as well as a review of benchmarks, identifying the common points in the public call notices of Minas Gerais municipalities. The objective of the study was to verify the feasibility of buying processed food kinds from family farming to meet the demand for school lunches at the Technical School of Health of the Federal University of Uberlândia, which still does not acquire school lunches with PNAE funds for not having kitchen for preparing food and staff for that. The results obtained indicate that there are several documented cases of public calls for the purchase of processed meals that were successful, demonstrating the feasibility of the intended purchase. Thus, the realization of the process depends on the action of the leaders of the academic unit, with the legal and bureaucratic path being designed. The research allowed to present a solution for the purchase of school lunches in a place without an environment for food preparation, producing, as a technological product, a proposal for a public notice and its annexes for the use of ESTES in the acquisition of food. It is concluded that the purchase of school meals processed by ESTES is feasible, in order to promote local family farming and promote food and nutritional security for students, in compliance with the guiding principles of the PNAE.
