Resumo: In this master’s dissertation, the possibility of meaning, content or shared effect in Music is discussed on the basis of Alain Daniélou’s view – a French musicologist and specialist in the field of Culture, History, Philosophy and Hindu religion – about sound, its intrinsic forces and the human capacity of interpreting it through the analysis of psycho-physiological effects. These views support the structure of his work named Musical Semantics, which will be the starting point of our discussions. The dissertation consists of considerations about the logical possibilities of an objective or shared effect and its possible relationships with musical aspects taking into account the structures and attributions of cause and effect determined by Daniélou, although views of other important authors on musical thought will be discussed. Thus, this investigation embodies a critical interpretation of Musical Semantics by Alain Daniélou and analyses – in a dialogical construction with other views – the possibilities, agreements and divergences on the subject as well as it reflects on his logical possibilities and possible implications for thinking and making music.
