Resumo: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Brazilian schools. Significant changes occurred in the daily school structure with the closure of schools and the mandatory shift from face-to-face teaching to remote teaching. The present dissertation sought to understand this moment of changes in the school routine with its consequences, since the schools were closed, classes were taught remotely and students were deprived of the normality of the school routine. The deprivation of face-to-face teaching and real socialization had consequences for the teaching and learning process and brought numerous challenges for the entire faculty, students and family. The analysis we carried out, in a classroom of the 5th year of elementary education at a public school in Uberlândia, located in the State of Minas Gerais, allowed us to understand the challenges, limits and pedagogical solutions for that moment of pandemic. The research brought important contributions for us to understand the challenges regarding the verification of the loss in the teaching-learning processes. The verification of the problems arising from the pandemic situation with elementary school students revealed the learning difficulties and the urgency in the pedagogical processes that had to be adapted, without any preparation or investment by the State, regarding the issues posed by the pandemic. We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on schools and, therefore, the teaching role was of great importance in overcoming pedagogical and social challenges, guaranteeing students access to an education of prime quality.
