Resumo: This thesis approaches studies related to the character Paulo Honório writing and self-invention, in São Bernardo, by Graciliano Ramos. In this character, specific marks from the Alagoas author's literature can be found, which lead to the need for studies on elements such as: identity, reality and fiction relation in Graciliano's work, memory, language, verisimilitude and search for reflections about social and individualities of the characters. Paulo Honório's writing and figuration study became important because he changes during the narrative, reinventing himself and revealing a mourning and melancholy panorama that he experienced after the death of his wife Madalena. From the aforementioned themes studies, characteristics of Paulo Honório fictional writing are being unraveled, who shows himself to the reader at the same time he makes metalinguistic reflections on his writings and his pretensions. The critical fortune about São Bernardo guided this thesis studies and researches, even making possible an analogy between avant-garde movements and the caricature self-image drawn/written by Paulo Honório himself. To sum up, Paulo Honório writing, fictionalized by Graciliano Ramos hands, proves to be prolific for research, reflection and studies not only about São Bernardo, but also on original techniques revealed in the author's novels.
