Resumo: The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the action of 0.5% ropivacaine in the mandibular alveolar nerve bloqueade in cats. Twenty adult cats, without a defined race, male and female, received clorpromazine (1.0 mg/kg VO) and propofol (3.0 mg/kg IV), as pre-anesthesic medication. 0.5% ropivocaine was administered through a L-shaped, 13x3.8 needle, inserted in the right mandibular angle, aproximately 1.0 cm rostral to the angular process and 0.5 cm dorsal to the mediai surface of the mandible, in order to deposite it near the mandibular alveolar nerve, in the mandibular foramen. The cardiac and breething frequencies were measured before cloropromazine (Tbaseline) was given, 20 minutes after its administration (T0), 20 minutes after the ropivacaine mandibular alveolar nerve bloqueade (T20) and in 20 minute intervals until sensitiveness returned to the anesthesized region. The latency period and the duration of the anesthesia were observed through the pinching of the skin and gengiva in the right lateral mandibular region. Analgesia began after 22 minutes, with a duration of 164,25 minutes. The cardiac frequency and the breething frequency had presented changes, although, without any clinicai significance for the specie. 0.5% ropivacaine anesthesizes the pre-molar, molar, canine, incisor, lower oral skin, mucosa and lip region, without any collateral effects.
