Resumo: The Knowledge Management KM searches to integrate organization to the knowledge that can be created, shared and stored. This study aims to show how the KM is used as a strategic resource and source of Sustainable Competitive Advantage SCA in the Resource based view RBV perspective. We made a survey in the form of census with the managers of 337 companies associated with ABAD Brazilian Association of Wholesalers and Distributors and listed in the ABAD/Nielsen 2008 Ranking. After a review of the literature on KM and SCA, we have structured the instrument of research from the Knowledge Management Diagnostic created by Bukowitz and Williams (2002) and from the Framework VRIO proposed by Barney (1991,1995). But the return that we were seeking was low due to the fact that the data collection was completed with only 11 answered questionnaires. Considering the criterion of overall performance of 55%, the calculation of the median indicates a percentage of 69%. Therefore, the managers of the surveyed companies have a favorable attitude, they use measures and procedures and see the KM as a source of SCA in the RBV perspective. However, the GC is used at a preliminary level. That way, there is the need for the companies to recognize the importance of the KM and also to work for its effective implementation. Finally, inserted in the business administration and aligned to the company s global strategic plan, the KM could be used as a strategic resource and source of SCA in the RBV perspective.
