It is clear the importance of cultural heritage in the construction of identity of places. Taking Estrela do Sul/MG – city that had its heyday and economic decline in the diamond period of the nineteenth century in the old Sertão da Farinha Podre, current Triângulo Mineiro – as a research subject and considering the remaining cultural heritage of its historical processes, the dissertation presented is dedicated to understanding the recognition actions, recovery and patrimonialization of their cultural heritage, local cultural social movements. It is intended to trace the trajectory and culturalisation national cultural policies that recognize participatory processes established by social movements focusing on those who raised the culture as a political ideology and element of social transformation. Estrela do Sul, it appears, in the 1980s, in the national context. Cultural social movements that have arisen in the city at that time, sought in their traditions and memory, recognize the landscape and place, promoting actions that gradually were incorporated into the municipal administrations and local preservation institutions, recognizing the resulting experiences preservation participatory process and the sacredness of their valued cultural heritage and representatives of local identity. To this end, we seek a path of analysis that has the methodological approach, the conceptual building experiences heritage by groups and movements and that evidence of the link between heritage, identity and memory, man's relationship with the natural environment, recurring practices the preservationist discourse amplified by cultural movements and that fosters multiple interpretations, made through the use of a theoretical framework - especially the Memory Spaces of concepts and Cultural Landscape - that allows streamline the research so that the issues are inter-related . It also outlined in initial hypothesis that, in a way, the cultural movements that have arisen in the city, realized the concept of cultural heritage of Estrela do Sul, in a fragmented way. Thus, it is intended that the final dissertation, can tie up "loose ends of the ball" and contribute to these identified assets are later research subjects and that through effective policies are preserved, which fulfill their role as elements of social transformation, educational and cultural.
