Resumo: Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of prototype disposable electrode conductive microfiber UNIFESP as a tool evaluation of retinal function in patients with retinal dystrophy, following the standard protocol of the full-field electroretinography (ERG) of International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV). Methods: This study was approved by the Ethics in Research Federal University of São Paulo under number 1087/08. They participated this study 54 patients, 28 males and 26 females with mean age was 36.17 ± 16.39 years, 31.76 years and median diagnosis Previous retinal dystrophy. All participants underwent the ERG total field using the reusable bipolar electrode Burian-Allen for diagnostic confirmation and further examination and were later using two disposable monopolar electrode conductive microfiber (DTL® imported and UNIFESP prototype). Electroretinograms for the record, the electrodes were randomly selected in two consecutive visits maximum interval of 7 days. The VERIS 5.1.9 EDI system was used to the acquisition and analysis of data. The results were analyzed ERG Separate the linear regression method, using the software Statistical StataSE 11. The retinal dystrophy type was classified based the clinical criteria such as Stargardt's disease, cone dystrophy, retinitis pigmentosa, cone-rod dystrophy and others. The responses of the ERG They were compared with normative data from our own laboratory. Results: The magnitude and quality of the shapes of the waves Electrical obtained with the two electrodes were similar for all ERG responses. The amplitudes obtained with the prototype UNIFESP They tended to be lower than the answers coming from the DTL® for more amplitudes. The regression equations showed that the times culmination obtained from the UNIFESP prototype tended to be later in relation to DTL® electrode for further completion times. although the above results, there was no statistical difference significant for all the parameters of amplitude and time between the completion of DTL® the electrode and UNIFESP prototype. When the analyzes were diseases was separated by greater variability of responses for breadth parameter as compared to the completion time. At amplitudes of resulting responses DTL® electrode tended to be higher in the following diseases: Stargardt disease, cone dystrophy dystrophy and type cone-rod. The regression equations show that the time culmination obtained from the UNIFESP prototype tended to be more late, but there was no statistically significant difference. Conclusions: The results showed that the waveforms obtained with the two types of electrodes were remarkably similar for all ERG responses. The UNIFESP prototype can be an alternative instrument for the clinical record of ERG in the evaluation of retinal function.
