Resumo: | Abdominoplasty is the second most accomplished plastic surgery for body contouring. Seroma and edema are among the most frequent postoperative complications. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and compression garment are indicated by plastic surgeons to reduce edema. The main disadvantage of the use of the garment is the increase of the intra-abdominal pressure and increase of the venous stasis. Reducing or eliminating the use of a garment could reduce the risk of thromboembolic phenomena. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of compressive garment in the reduction of subcutaneous abdominal edema associated with manual lymphatic drainage in patients submitted a abdominoplasty. Methods: Thirty-two women between 19 and 50 years old were selected, distributed in the groups with garment (GG n = 16) and without garment (GW n = 16). All were submitted to abdominoplasty and manual lymphatic drainage. Postoperative edema was evaluated through waist circumference (WC) and bioimpedance. Results: The mean age was 35.88 GG and 34.81 GW. All subjects were submitted to ten sessions of manual lymphatic drainage. The WC showed reduction in the group without strap when compared to the preoperative and the tenth MLD. In relation to the total body water in the first MLD, the mean of the GW was lower than the GG. Conclusion: The use of the garment did not demonstrate efficacy in the reduction of subcutaneous abdominal edema in patients submitted to abdominoplasty and manual lymphatic drainage. |
