Resumo: | The object of analysis of this work was the thought of Louis Couty (1854-1884), French scientist who came to Brazil in the 1870s on two issues: the problem of labor and the constitution of the people in the Empire Brazil. The objective was to understand its relations questioning their dialogue and convergence of their theses with the construction of reformist projects aimed at a modern Brazil from the European immigration. We came to the Empire in the context of the crisis of slavery and the monarchy, intense period and decisive debates on the fate of the political regime, the formation of Brazilian nationality and the country's destiny. Examine how the writings of Louis Couty express some fundamental themes of the late nineteenth century debate as the question of work, training of people and the concept of national identity, guided by some special features: a dialogue, as a cultural mediator in institutional networks Empire, particularly the Central Society of Immigration and scientific associations such as the National Museum and Polytechnic School, both in Rio de Janeiro. We think that the emphasis on the relationship between his writings and his actions in the public sphere, will extend and enrich the understanding of the role of Louis Couty in their own time and the mergers of his writings and his thinking in later decades. Thus particularly interested in the discussion that the author makes the abolition of slavery process, the use of immigrant workers and their free national worker in connection with the idea of people. |
