Resumo: Historical-documentary study whose objective was to identify, describe and analyses the changes in the teaching of administrative communication in undergraduate courses in nursing schools in the Southeast (SE) of the country in the period from 1994 to 2001. The primary sources were the Political Educational Projects and disciplines programs of five public universities in the Southeast (SE) region of Brazil and the secondary sources were the materials available in the scientific literature. The sources were classified into Microsoft Excel®, in the variables: school name, document number, document type, document author, document date, number of pages in the document, the document fingerprinting, document imaging, document reference number. Preliminary analysis of the contents and key concepts of the documents and, later, through the identification of relevance and thematic similarity relationships between the messages contained in the texts were created three categories of interpretation: Curricular changes that occurred from the action of social actors involved and the legislation in force at the time; Contents of disciplines taught in the undergraduate program in Nursing; and Administration Discipline Organization. The discussion of the findings involved the readback of categories constructed, which responded to the proposed objective, with the scientific literature available on the subject. The study revealed that with the promulgation of Ordinance No. 1721 in 1994 and the National Curriculum Guidelines in 2001, ongoing discussions between teachers, students and leaders of the schools were triggered mainly by means of demonstrations on changes in workload, nomenclature and prerequisites of the disciplines. The ideological and theoretical bases of communication have been taught throughout the course and the teaching of its application highlighted to therapeutic communication. The teaching of administrative communication occurred in a pendulum motion and had been strengthened, at some point, the disciplines with the contents of applied Informatics. It was concluded that educational institutions have proven to be resilient in the face of successive demands of regulation of education and the teaching of administrative communication, although it was kept steadily in the period studied, not occupied center stage, being its contents pulverized in various disciplines.
