Resumo: | This study aimed to verify the socioeconomic-cultural level s interference on the speech comprehension performance in the scholars and if this condition can affect the hearing abilities, even with intact peripheral hearing. The sample was comprised by 51 children, aged between seven and ten years old, divided into two groups by different socioeconomic-cultural levels, based on the Economic Classification s Criterion of Brazil by the Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Pesquisa ABEP (2008). Thus, the Group 1 (G1) was comprised of 23 middle high level s children and the Group 2 (G2) of 28 middle lower level s children. Realized procedures: anamnesis; meatoscopy; obtain hearins thresholds; measures of acoustic impedance and Recognition Sentence in the Silence Thresholds (RSST) and in the Noise (RSNT), expressed by the signal to noise ratio (S/N), obtained by the Portuguese Sentence Lists test PSL; and Staggered Spondaic Word test SSW. In the article I, were studied the auditory abilities assessed by SSW test. In the article II, the speech recognition in quiet and in noise were studied, by analyzing the RSST and S/R ratio It was found that the children from both groups had similar performances only to the RSST variable, while middle high level s children scores highly than the middle lower level s to the speech recognition ability and to the assessed abilities from the SSW test. This showed that the socioeconomic-cultural level affects this abilities performance. |
