Resumo: |
Temporal processing deficits characterizes the loss of quality of the auditory information received and processed by the elderly hearing system. Objective: assess elderly with hearing loss (HL) through central auditory processing assessment. Method: 70 elderly aged 60 up to 85, with bilateral mild or moderate sensorineural HL. People were divided in 2 groups (G1 – above-average performance +1SD; G2 – below-average performance +1SD) and tested on: Dichotic Digits Test (DDT); Pediatric Speech Intelligibility (PSI); Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT). Results: G1 achieved a better performance because of a characteristic that differs them from G2: educational group. The RGDT overall average was 130.1 ms. RE scored higher than the LE on DDT test. RE showed higher values than LE in both conditions of the PSI test (0/MCI and -10/MCI). Educational group and age impact on the elderly performance measured in PSI RE 0/MCI and PSI LE -10/MCI variables. Conclusion: Stimuli intervals detection time increased on RGDT – 130,1 ms, values above those reported in the literature. P-values results and the association of variables such as gender, age, education, level of loss and the group configuration showed significant difference for age and education variables |
