Resumo: The study was carried out in the Biological Reservation of the Ibicuí-Mirim in the county of São Martinho da Serra, central area of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with the main objective of evaluating the correlation of the species distribution with edaphic and topographical factors, considering the trees and shrubs stratum and the natural regeneration. Initially it was presented a general introduction on the study theme, presenting the situation of the Seasonal Forests in the State of Rio Grande do Sul regarding historical aspects of human occupation, formation and conservation. In this part the concepts of Seasonal Forests, geographical distribution and their classifications as for the seasonal characteristic in the State was developed. Also, it was made a revision of the different studies carried out in environment forest, from flowering to the phytosociology in the Brazil, and their current and future tendencies regarding data analyses and ecological aspects. The first chapter developes the study of the trees and shrubs stratum, characterizing the individuals with CAP (circumference at breast height - 1,30 m) ≥ 30 cm and their phytosociologies aspects of horizontal and vertical distribution, on a topographical gradient. For that it was used 28 plots of 20 x 20 m, distributed systematically in six ascending lines until the top of the hill. The aims of this study besides the phytosociology characterization of the species, was to measure the correlation of the distribution of the same species in the environmental gradient of topography without fluvial influence. In the second chapter, it studied the individuals of smaller dimensions, CAP between 5 and 29,9 cm to characterize the natural regeneration. The individuals were evaluated in subplots of 10 x 10 m, allocated inside of the plots of the trees-shrubs stratum, totalizing 28 plots. The objective of that chapter was to characterize the phytosociologies parameters, the geographical dispersion contingent and the correlations of the species with the environmental factors. The forest presented high diversity in both analyses, prominence for the species Trichilia claussenii C. DC. that presented high correlation of its abundance, with places of high slope and bedrock in the top of the hills in Entisols.
