Resumo: The contribution of Urban Geography and Urban Planning become fundamental for understanding the phenomena that occur in urban space. This research seeks to carry out a survey and an analyze of vertical growth through buildings in the town of Venâncio Aires – RS. The importance of the study of small towns and urban morphology inserted in relation to this process is also highlighted. The main objective of this research is to understand the urban verticalization process in the town of Venâncio Aires - RS, as well as to identify the causes, consequences and contradictions of the phenomenon from the study of urban morphology. The approach method used in this research is the hypothetical-deductive method. This method consists of observing problems, gaps or contradictions in prior knowledge or in existing theories. From these problems, gaps or contradictions, conjectures, solutions or hypotheses are formulated; these, in turn, are tested in what Popper denominated it falsifiability technique. Falsifiability can be done, in other ways, through experimentation or statistical analysis. After the result, the results are evaluated as conjectures, solutions or previously elaborated hypotheses, which can be reputed (rejected) or corroborated. As a result of this research, the processes generated by urban verticalization were generated, such as the results generated by land going up and the quantitative spatial distribution of buildings in different neighborhoods, in addition to analyzing four different configurations of urban form through examples arising from the effects caused in the neighborhoods with greater land going up and distribution of buildings, thus highlighting the spatial contradictions in the urban space through specific intra-urban areas. Finally, it is concluded that an analysis of the urban space and its growth, both vertical and horizontal, in the represented town, reached a significant representation in terms of its territorial expansion.
