Resumo: | This research aims to collaborate with the preservation of a built cultural heritage. Administração Central build is located at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Southern Brazil; itwasbuilt between 1960 and 1973, and is representative of Brazilian Modern Architecture.The data were obtained through access to bibliography, public and private documents, archives, records, photographs, architectural and technical projects and interviews with key staff and eyewitnesses. A visual inspection was made in order to verify damages caused by operation and other interventions. The focus was mainly the façades that have been undergone to reconstruction. Nowadays the façades incorporate air conditioners that harm them. Additionally energy consumption measurements were carried in order to supplement the above data. Consideration of principles and concepts of Modern Architecture are presented, historical and cultural aspects related to the Administração Central build, as well as possible solutions to the problems verified. The study aims the suitability to the current uses of build, in special thermal comfort, energy efficiency, besides its restoration and preservation concerning to the original façade materials and elements, such as windows, brises-soleil and coverings. Results present a technical and economical alternatives, guidelines that promote actions aiming to recuperate east and northern façades in order to reduce indoor thermal loads. Further interventions must consider the modern original characteristics. As a practical outcome a Cultural and Technical Preservation Plan is presented in order to advice the making of stakeholders decisions and actions. |
