Resumo: Attracting investment and promoting exports to support industrialization, economic diversification and structural transformation are increasingly necessary for the development of emerging economies (UNCTAD, 2019). Therefore, the theoretical investigation of the phenomenon of internationalization of companies in these economies has gained space and can be considered an important tool for understanding and providing the necessary subsidies to boost business activities in the foreign market. Thus, the present research sought to contribute to the literature on the internationalization of companies from the investigation of the influences of strategic orientation and institutional factors in this domain. Based on this, the objective of the study is to analyze the influence of strategic guidelines - entrepreneurial, for the market and for learning - and institutional factors on the propensity for the internationalization of technology-based companies in an emerging economy. With regard to methodological aspects, the research is descriptive, based on the investigation method of quantitative research, adopting the cross-sectional survey as a strategy. The population and research sample collected is composed of 137 Brazilian technology-based companies. Data analysis was performed using univariate and multivariate statistical tests. Univariate statistical tests were mainly used to characterize the sample, presenting frequency, mean, standard deviation and percentage. And, the Structural Equation Modeling technique (PLS-SEM) was used to test the research model proposed in this thesis. The main results are: i) the non-confirmation of the direct influence of strategic guidelines on the propensity for internationalization; ii) institutional factors positively influence the propensity for internationalization and; iii) strategic orientations influence institutional factors. In this way, it is concluded that the strategic guidelines are not direct influencers in the propensity for the internationalization of Brazilian TBEs and the institutional factors stood out in this influence.
