Resumo: Desruralization continues to mark the Brazilian territorial organization, so that it can not be considered as a simple and natural situation. The lack of opportunity for rural youth in the countryside causes many to migrate to cities in search of a better quality of life and new forms of income generation. In this sense, new incentives and alternatives become important for the permanence of the farmers in the rural environment. In view of this, rural entrepreneurship appears as a possibility for small producers to stimulate their economic activities and to leverage the development of these places, agroindustrialization is inserted in this as an alternative adopted by several families in rural areas. Strategies to improve rural entrepreneurship, product diversification, improvements in production processes and management, allow the producer competitive market advantages. Thus, the present dissertation seeks to study rural entrepreneurship in the context of the competitiveness of the family agroindustries of the municipality of Jaguari / RS. For this purpose the research was carried out in four legalized agribusinesses of the municipality through a semi structured interview with the rural producers. The theoretical basis of the study consists of entrepreneurship, presenting the particularities of each school, behavioralist and economist, and the debate on rural entrepreneurship, as well as theoretical reflections on competitiveness. As main results, many of the positive factors of the competition of the ventures come from entrepreneurial actions carried out by farmers, such as innovations in technologies, good relationship with customers which comes from the commitment and demand for the quality of the products offered, the legislation of the agro-industries resulting from the farmers identifying in the formalization an opportunity to maintain their place in the market and that, in this way, presents itself as a differential against the competition. It is noteworthy that among the entrepreneurial characteristics that were less identified in the rural producers were planning, control and goal setting, and that consequently presents itself with one of the negative aspects of the enterprises' competitiveness. Thus, the importance of entrepreneurial action for the competitiveness of agroindustrial enterprises. Therefore, the role of rural extension as a promoter of the promotion of entrepreneurial action in rural areas is essential and to encourage producers to undertake more and more in order to become competitive in their activities in order to ensure their quality of life, ensuring its maintenance in the field and demystifying the common sense that rural is a backward space that can not be improved
