Resumo: This research is about the relation between the meaning of narratives and the reader’s world, based on the work of Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005). We understand the reading as a reconfiguration process, that recreates meaning according with the interpretation of the reader, what is characterize by Ricoeur as mímesis III. The reading is not only based on the absorption of the text, but also on the recreation of his meaning. The interpretation changes the sense of the work and also the reader’s comprehension about himself and about his experiences in the world that he lives, by an assimilation process called katharsis by the aesthetics of reception from Hans Robert Jauss (1921- 1997). We begin by the division between explaining and comprehending, attempting to the singular aspect of the text comprehension. After that, we approach the temporal issue, calling the attention to the internal aspect of the time, also called time of the soul, from Saint Augustine, in relation with the external experience of the mundane world, using for that the dichotomy between text world and reader’s world, presented from Ricoeur. In the end, we show how occurs the process of the narrative assimilation to the reader’s practical life, out of the texts, according with the cathartic phenomenon possible from the reconfigurative reading.
