Resumo: Sapucaia do Sul is a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, and like other locations in Brazil and the world, the relationship between society and nature in this space has been troubled. Marked by rapid and disorganized urbanization, characteristic of peripheral municipalities such as large Brazilian metropolises, natural elements are threatened by invisibilities and lack of effective public policies for their conservation. At the same time, a significant portion of the population lives in areas susceptible to natural disasters and in precarious housing conditions, the result of a process of production of urban space that did not consider either nature or society's quality of life. In this context, this work seeks to understand how nature and society have interacted in the municipality's territorial formation process, and how urbanization has threatened natural heritage and the ecosystem services they provide. Therefore, this research seeks to investigate the adverse relationships between natural heritage, ecosystem services and urbanization in the municipality of Sapucaia do Sul, with the aim of developing teaching material that can be used as a tool for Geography Teaching in the County. For this, the historical-dialectical materialist method was used, undertaking a bibliographical review on the central concepts, contextualizing them historically and exposing the dialectical relationships that exist between them which, imposed on the process of organizing the space of the capitalist mode of production, resulted in the contradiction observed in the spatial reality of the municipality. Through these procedures, it was possible to create the booklet “Nature and the City in Sapucaia do Sul/RS”, which aims to share the investigation carried out in this research based on teaching material aimed at Geography Teaching, which provided theoretical bases and practices so that the municipality's teachers can carry out fieldwork in the natural heritage identified by this work. Based on the understanding of the relevance of natural heritage and ecosystem services for the population of Sapucaia do Sul, the aim is to increase school communities and the population in general in participating in the processes of formulating public policies external to territorial planning, providing society with tools for debate and promote adequate urbanization that preserves local natural heritage.
