Resumo: Care during puerperium needs to happen so qualified and integral, so that we can identify early complications and, mainly, physiological and psychological needs of women. In addition to the prevention of diseases, assistance in puerperal period must promote physical comfort to who has recently given birth by offering educational activities that provide policies to take care of you and your son. On the complexity of the experience of this process, the health professionals who meet the recent mothers need to provide assistance based on active listening and sensitive, considering its peculiarities and encompassing biological, physical and emotional aspects. Thus, this study presented as research question: what are the puerperal care practices of nurses in the family health strategy? In order to meet the puerperal care practices of nurses in the family health strategy. This is qualitative study, field and descriptive character, developed in family health Units of the urban area of the municipality of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Attended nine nurses. The inclusion criteria were nurses working in family health Units of the urban area of the municipality and the exclusion, nurses who had time to act on the service of less than six months. The data were collected between December 2016 and January 2017 through a semi-structured interview and analyzed as the operative proposal. The completion of the study complied with the ethical principles set out in resolution No. 466, 12 December 2012 and the processes of Research Ethics Committee at the Federal University of Santa Maria. The results showed that the nurses realize the puerperium as an important period of adjustments, changes and transformations, which involves physiological and hormonal, in that there may be complications. The actions taken when the recent mothers do not return to the query of puerperium, revolve around the home visit, partnership with health agents, catchment of recent mothers in performing the test, telephone calls and presence of a logbook or record mirror of pregnant women, in theunit. Puerperal queries happen around once or twice in the period up to 30 days and are held, mostly by nurses, which develop actions such as the completion of physical birth, c-section incision care or episiotomy, guidelines on breastfeeding, emotional aspects assessment and guidance regarding reproductive planning. It is believed that this study can contribute to the effectiveness of care during puerperium, in the context of family health Units, since it discusses a number of strategies that can be used by the teams for assistance in those services happen puerperal. In addition, it was also possible to flag some gaps in the puerperium, the perspective of the family health strategy, which may enable the discussion about the problem among professionals and managers, allowing the search for care qualification during this period.
