Resumo: The present study was developed with the purpose of identifying the demands of civil servants and technical and administrative former staff in education at UFSM, their expectations and concerns about the process for retirement from institution. For this, were applied interviews and structured questionnaires with open questions to technical and administrative staff in education who are 5 years or less retired, to servers that are 5 years or less to retirement and some managers of the institution. The methodological procedures were exploratory case study, descriptive, qualitative and quantitative approach. To conduct the study, readings related to changes and developments in the world of work, legislation and retirement were made. After analyzing the results of the three segments and interviews with the servants, the obtained results allowed to verify the view of the servants already retired, expectations of pre-retirees and vision of managers about shutdown retirement UFSM. Knowledge of these factors can contribute to organizational practices that promote personal satisfaction and appreciation of the human capital of the institution, as well as subsidize the program Transforming Today - Retirement Preparation Program, which was implemented at UFSM since 2011.
