Resumo: This paper aimed to research the social representations of teachers towards gifted students and their implications in the process of identification and in the search of understanding the representations that exist on a daily basis and that are in the common sense of this social group. It was used the theory of social representations and some methodological possibilities that it allows. This research was carried out with seven teachers of a state public school of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul state. All the research participants took part of the data collection that consisted in a triangle of instruments, starting with a dynamics activity called Three Characteristic Dynamics‟, of a Technique of Free Word Association and, finally, answered a questionnaire to confirm the data collected previously. The data were then analyzed according to the frequency of words and their importance in the research context. It was noticed that the strongest and the most recurrent representations of the students‟ representations, from those ones who show behaviors of giftedness, are intelligence, smartness, curiosity and the attitude of being questioners.
