Resumo: Drug therapy in children requires health professional adequate knowledge of medicines, promoting and disseminating a culture of safety in relation to this stage of care. This study aimed to develop a practice/activity of education in the service about the safety of pediatric patients on drug therapy with the nursing staff in the pediatric inpatient unit (IPU). It is a qualitative, descriptive and participatory research developed with the method convergent assistencial research (CAR). Participants were members of the nursing team working in UIP, including technicians, assistants and nurses. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution under number CAAE: 40744115.2.0000.5346. The results were organized into two categories: safe care in the prepare and administration of drugs and outcomes of a dialogic educational practice in service. It was concluded that the in-service education presents itself as a necessary and effective strategy to answer questions of the nursing staff in relation to drug therapy with immediate repercussions in the practice of the IPU staff. It is suggested to encourage the development of a non- punitive culture for the sake of patient safety.
