Resumo: | This thesis aimed to understand the processes of female empowerment present in the daily lives of women coffee growers who produce organic female coffee in the municipality of Poço Fundo (MG), as well as to identify the aspects of female empowerment in the dynamics of female work in family farming with focus on organic coffee farming. To this end, twelve in-depth interviews were carried out with the producers and three interviews with producers. The producers were linked to the women's group MOBI (Women Organized in Search of Equality), associated to the Cooperativa dos Agricultores Familiares de Poço Fundo and Region, COOPFAM. The research is based on three conceptual axes, namely, Family Agriculture, Gender and Female Empowerment. The study is qualitative, considering gender as an analytical category, through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation. The interviewees took place in 2019, with the first contact taking place in March 2019 and the last in March 2020, thus completing twelve months of field research. The empirical context of the research is located in the municipality of Poço Fundo, in the south of Minas Gerais. Data saturation was used to define the number of participants in the interviews. The results showed that the empowerment of these coffee women happened through work and struggles to conquer political, economic, social and financial spaces and rights. Four variables were identified in relation to Empowerment that contribute to this group of women feeling empowered, they are; individual, financial, organizational, collective and/or community. The profiles of the interviews are very similar, since according to the saturation methodology, with ten interviewees the speeches and life stories have already started to be repeated. MOBI is the biggest channel of women in search of knowledge. If the woman is not going to be part of the cooperative, she can be part of the group, developing activities that she already carries out in her daily life, such as growing roses, making handicrafts, cultivating a vegetable garden, making homemade breads and cookies to sell at the organic fair. that the cooperative develops every week. There were new needs and women went in search of their political representation, today a woman from the MOBI group is the president. The sexual division of labor is very present in homes and also in the positions held in the cooperative. Family farming is the basis of the cooperative's coffee production, family succession is an important and very necessary issue according to the interviews. It is concluded that the cooperative is the means by which women seek their Empowerment and MOBI is where everything happens, where this Empowerment takes place. |
