Resumo: The industry was one of the responsibles for the great urban transformations, the multiplication of several branches of services of the modern cities and the development of means of transportation and communication, which, nationally or globally interlinked regions. Also, it was responsible for higher productivity, and consequent increase in the agricultural production and rural depopulation. In addition, it introduced a new way of life and new consumer habits, new jobs, promoted a new stratification of society and this new relationship with the nature. In this context, work had as general objective understand the disposal of the solid waste industrial hazardous of the metal mechanic sector in the municipality of Panambi-RS, identifying species and quantities, as well as to characterize its final destination. The specific objectives of this work has been: to identify the number and types of industrial solid waste generated during 2010, in the metal-mechanic sector industries, research and characterization of the packaging, storage, transport and disposal of industrial dangerous solid waste and verification of the existence of waste management programs and environmental education for community awareness in the industries of the sector in the city.The procedures used were a literature review, interviews, document analysis spreadsheet of the Sistema de Gerenciamento e Controle de Resíduos Sólidos Industriais (SIGECORS), sent quarterly to the competent environmental agency. After the analysis, it was concluded that, with the exception of one (1) type of waste, the waste generated in other industries surveyed are sent for final treatment. As for the transport of hazardous solid waste, one (1) industry uses incorrectly the sending way to final destination. Regarding waste management programs and environmental education for community awareness, only two (2) industries conduct activities to this end, the others offer only standards of conduct within the company. The Plan of Solid Waste Management is being developed only in two (2) of the six (6) industries surveyed.
