Resumo: This dissertation presents a study on the formation of Republican States in Brazil and Argentina, in the XIX century in which it was given priority to the distinction of the models Republic/Nation thought and discussed by the members of the politics elite who participated in this formation. Through the bibliographic review we tried to understand and make explicit the historical context in which these republican ideas have developed. In Brazil, the political discussion happened, mainly through the defense of three models of republic: the north- American liberal, the positivist and the French Jacobin. In Argentina, different from Brazil, there was not any character of contestation on the defense of republic implantation in relation to the other form of government, identifying the idea of republic with the own formation of the Argentinean nation. In the Argentinean context, there was the predominance of a liberal view of republic, having as inspiration both the United States of America and Europe. On the view of Political History, we tried to join, as we narrate, the impressions and interest of the characters to the socio-political reality which surrounded them, as well as the political arrangements that took place in the mentioned process. In the last chapter, there are the similarities and differences among the schemes thought and discussed in both countries in relation to the process of formation of its respective Republican States and the similarities and differences between the historical contexts which allowed such schemes to appear. We highlight, that it was used comparison not with a quantitative and linear view but as an instrument of analysis to provide historical basis to produce the considerations on the similarities and differences between the formation of the Republics of Brazil and Argentina.
