Resumo: | This work presents a new point of view about electrolytic capacitor reduction in lighting systems. While most of studies focus only in the functionality of the driver, as ripple current and time response they don’t check the response of the circuit with reduced capacitance on electromagnetic compatibility mainly against surge voltage. This work starts with a bibliographic study on electromagnetic compatibility focusing in surge immunity requirements looking for compliance with IEC 61547 test and requirements. The surge protection device to be analyzed has two components; one is series impedance trigging at driver failure and another in parallel in charge to absorb the surge energy designing these elements to absorb the surge when it happens without acting under normal operation of the driver. Finishing the work is presented a case study using the designed surge protection circuit in two different configuration of a resonant converter being able to verify that reducing the driver capacitance makes the circuit more susceptible against surge voltages. |
