Resumo: The study analyzed the relation of the spatial distribution of native forest vegetation in the river basin of the Jacaquá-Alegrete/RS with the elements of the physical environment. Over the years many researchers have sought to understand this relationship, there are cases that are great evidences such as the presence of forest and field species in the same region, where they characterize a place of transition between two typologies of vegetation, this fact was observed and described by Lindman (1906), Rambo (1956) and Marchiori (2002, 2004, 2006). Currently there are works such as Alves (2008) and Guadagnin (2015) that sought to understand this forest relationship with elements of the physical environment. The methodology used in the present study was divided into two steps, the study of the physical environment and the study of vegetation. This methodology allowed the adequate classification of the elements of the physical environment and vegetation typologies, generated from SRTM data, being important resources to understand the relation of vegetation distribution. It can perceive that the river basin under study has an important relation with the relief and its variables in the vegetal distribution, both riparian and hillside forest. Finally, it is noticed that the typologies of vegetation are aggregated mainly to places where are found its tributary springs of the Arroio Jacaquá river basin.
