Resumo: There was an increase in the incidence and prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases, such as neoplasms, diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. These data reflect the current demographic and social situation in Brazil, evidenced by the accelerated demographic transition, with the consequent increase in the number of people with chronic conditions. The guiding question was: “what are the cardiovascular risk factors among young adults aged 20 to 29 years and what are the perceptions about the conditions of access to Primary Health Care services for this population in the city of Santa Maria / RS?”. This study aims to analyze the presence of cardiovascular risk factors and the perception about the concept of health and the conditions of access to Primary Health Care services among young adults living in the city of Santa Maria / RS. It is a cross-sectional descriptive study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Young adults aged 20 to 29 years participated in this study. Quantitative data, from a matrix project, underwent descriptive statistical analysis. The production of qualitative data occurred through semi-structured interviews and content analysis proposed by Bardin. The inclusion criteria were: users of both genders of Primary Health Care in the urban area of the municipality, aged between 20 and 29 years old, who had participated in the research linked to the matrix project. The research respected the ethical precepts set forth in Resolution No. 466/12. Young adults presented as cardiovascular risk factors sedentary lifestyle, obesity, alcohol use, being active and passive smokers, drug users (marijuana and cocaine), having undergone treatment for depression and considering themselves stressed. Therefore, the qualitative data identified the perception of young adults about the meaning of health, the care practices that permeate health and access to health services in the municipality. In view of the above, the present study aimed to contribute to the qualification of health care provided to young adults cared for in Primary Health Care in Santa Maria / RS, as well as to allow the setting of goals for disease prevention and promotion of health from the results of this study.
